Lake Retba is undoubtedly the most beautiful place in Africa - it is less than an hour away from the capital city of Senegal.

Retba is an unusual lake that surely catches the eye of any visitor because of its unusual and very vivid pink color. The lake is separated by some narrow dunes from the Atlantic Ocean. Its salt content is very high and it can be compared to the salinity of the Dead Sea. Its color is caused by the Dunaliella Salina bacteria, which is attracted to the lake due to the salt content. The bacteria produce a red pigment in order to absorb sunlight, thus giving the lake its extraordinary color.
